It might be a bit too easy to play the platforming parts but the Puzzle parts are sometimes balls to the walls hard which makes it a moderate balance.
I loved the game but didn't like the press down to bonk versions which I think was the Megadrive one very much I think that must have been the one you played if you never got along with it.
The Mega CD and AMIGA ones I advise to give a second chance treatment as they are great. The Mega CD has less music though because they messed up giving the same boss music to everyone.
